About Us

The Blue Heart Foundation

founded by the late visionary Tracy Morris and his wife, April Ray Morris, is a non-profit organization passionately dedicated to empowering underserved African American male youth, ages 13-18, in the greater San Diego County community since 2013.

Rooted in the Morris family’s unwavering commitment to building brighter futures, our program provides a wide range of transformative resources, including mentoring, college and career readiness workshops, campus tours, emotional wellness support, and activities that foster cultural identity, pride and brotherhood. We are dedicated to equipping our students with the tools and skills they need to succeed academically, socially, and professionally while embracing and celebrating their heritage.

Today, April Ray Morris continues to honor Tracy’s legacy by driving the foundation’s mission forward. Through her leadership and dedication, the program remains a beacon of hope and empowerment for young African American men, fostering their growth into confident, well-rounded leaders.

Participation in our program begins with a shared commitment: both parents/guardians and students must attend an initial orientation and actively engage in at least one community service activity per semester. We firmly believe that the success of our young men is deeply rooted in the active involvement and dedication of their parents/guardians. By working together as partners in this journey, parents/guardians provide the support and reinforcement needed for their sons to fully embrace the opportunities within our program. Together, we’re building a lasting legacy of growth, leadership, cultural pride, and community impact..

Our Mission Statement

Building our community by providing an equitable and secure path to higher education, emotional health and character development for young African American males.

Blue Hearts mission is to empower African American boys by equipping them with a strong, positive mindset, the value of higher education, and the wisdom of metaphysical principles. We believe that by nurturing these areas, they will gain the confidence, critical thinking skills, and spiritual grounding needed to overcome obstacles, excel academically, and become leaders who inspire change in their communities. This mission is about helping them realize their full potential and embrace a holistic approach to growth, blending intellectual achievement with personal and spiritual development.

Our program is based on nine (9) core competencies which fall under three categories: 1) Abilities, 2) Applications, and 3) Character. Each competency is described below:

ABILITIES

1. Leadership – Members continuously cultivate their understanding of leadership and seek out opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills.

2. Teamwork – Members work collaboratively and effectively with others to achieve a desired outcome.

3. Vision – Members are able to articulate a clear personal vision and demonstrate the ability to execute their role in the vision of leaders under which they serve.

Our Vision

The Blue Heart Foundation is dedicated to empowering African American boys by instilling a strong mindset, a commitment to higher education, and metaphysical principles that foster personal growth, resilience, and cultural awareness. By nurturing a growth-oriented mindset, promoting academic achievement, and introducing spiritual and self-awareness practices, Blue Heart aims to equip these young individuals with the tools to overcome societal challenges, break generational cycles, and shape a brighter future for themselves and their communities. The ultimate goal is to help them develop the strength, purpose, and self-belief needed to thrive and contribute meaningfully to the world.

THE PLAN

  • To be a partner with underserved youth and empower them to create their own individual, dynamic life plans, and support them in formulating and achieving their goals.
  • To be a continuous resource for at-risk youth, primarily between the ages of 13 and 18, by inspiring positive change, fostering leadership, and promoting metaphysical and character development. We aim to help these young individuals visualize their future potential, identify the behaviors necessary for success, and practice the actions that will enable them to achieve their dreams and desired outcomes.
  • To be a resource for underserved youth to gain confidence, self-advocacy skills and attain peer-to-peer mentoring based on Blue Heart Foundation training and the nine (9) core competencies outlined in our mission.
  • To be a resource to empower underserved youth who complete the program by presenting them with computers/laptops/or iPads and other tools to facilitate community connections; to bridge the digital divide created by poverty; and to enable them to achieve their educational, employment and life goals.
  • To be a symbol of hope for underserved youth through coaching, mentoring and raising community awareness using the Blue Heart Foundation symbol in a powerful way to show that we are always working to pull others up as we rise.
  • To be a bridge connecting the business community with the limitless potential of underserved youth when given opportunity.
  • To be an influence on community involvement so that underserved youth are recognized and treated as valuable individuals to be encouraged and supported as they mature into self-sufficient adults.
  • To be recognized as an expert coaching, training and ongoing mentoring resource for underserved youth.
