H.E.A.R.T YOUTH SUCCESS COACH JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE: H.E.A.R.T Youth Success Coach

PROGRAM: H.E.A.R.T Academy (MC, CP, SP, STEM)

REPORTS TO:  Mentor and Program Director

LOCATION:  TBD (in-person & virtual)

STATUS: Volunteer Part Time, 5-25 hours/month. A 12-month commitment with a minimum of 1 Saturday workshop per month. (future possible paid position) 

Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated H.E.A.R.T Youth Coach to join our team. We encourage you to apply if you have an interest in higher education and holistic well-being and you are committed to building nurturing and safe learning environments for young adults. To excel in this role, you must possess strong communication skills, be organized, manage your time effectively, and work well both with students and as part of a team. Enjoying working with youth aged 13-18 and having a positive attitude are crucial for this role. Your responsibilities will include supervising students, assisting workshop speakers, and maintaining a positive and engaging learning environment.

 

H.E.A.R.T Youth Coach Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with mentors, interns and workshop speakers with various tasks as needed.
  • Encouraging positive behavior by fostering a respectful and focused learning environment.
  • Taking attendance and workshop photos, and uploading photos to Google Drive.
  • Open and close workshop building, ensuring the space is safe and clean.
  • May be asked to facilitate a mentee roundtable discussions.
  • Support students during workshop times, including between classes, during lunch, volunteer events, and field trips.
  • Set up and break down booths, manage marketing materials during volunteer events.
  • Document student progress and communicate with mentors and/or program director to keep them informed.
  • Attend training classes, parent conferences.
  • Assist students with completing required surveys and their Academy Online App profile.
  • Attend yearly, 5 day HBCU tours as chaperones.

 

H.E.A.R.T Youth Coach Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification. A degree in education, youth development, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth or in a similar leadership role.
  • Must have a compassionate and positive attitude, with a strong understanding of and respect for diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Be an emotionally stable and mature person with a sincere interest in helping youth develop to their full potential.
  • Have access to an automobile, auto insurance, and a good driving record.
  • Have a clean criminal history.
  • 12 month commitment with a minimum of 1 Saturday workshop per month

 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and presentation abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT TO VOLUNTEER WITH BLUE HEART?

We hold two workshops per month every 2nd and 3rd Saturday of the month. Workshops are held from 8am-1:30pm. Hours may be extended to include opening and closing the workshop building space. Some weekdays during Spring and Summer months.

Annual events are from 3-6 hours.

Field trips, booths and community service are from 2-6 hours. Hours may be extended to include set up and breakdown of materials.

WHO CAN VOLUNTEER WITH BLUE HEART?

Anyone age 18+ is welcome to connect with us to learn more about our volunteer opportunities. A background check may be required.

DO I NEED TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION OR A RESUME TO VOLUNTEER?

We do not require a resume. The application proceedure is a 2 step process. You will complete an ititial pre-appliction that will let us know you are interested, and then a final application that will be reviewed by our program staff. This helps us to determine how to best fit you into our schedual. Once reviewed, we will reach out to you to schedule a interview and determine your availability.
