🔥Blue Heart in the A-T-L!
👉🏾Our Executive Director, Tammy T. Blevins, touched down in Atlanta for a special trip with SDSU as they continue their efforts to become a Black Serving Institution (BSI)—big moves for the culture!
But that wasn’t the only reason she was in the city…
🎉Tammy linked up with our Blue Heart Alumni at Morehouse college-Eligah, Zeke, Omar, Mike, and Ke’aun—for a powerful reunion that brought all the feels. These young kings are out there thriving, growing, and representing everything Blue Heart stands for.
💙This was more than a meet-up. It was a celebration of legacy, love, and purpose.
This is Tracy’s dream.💙💪🏽

🔥What an incredible Mentor Connection Saturday session, led by the amazing Tammy T, Christopher Ransom, and our inspiring student leaders!
Today, we officially welcomed our New Blues into the Young Men of Excellence family! Our Heart Youth Leaders stepped up in a big way, leading student orientation and introducing our new brothers to Blue Heart history, major accomplishments, and the powerful Blue Heart Student Creed and Core Values.
But that wasn’t all—our new members got their first taste of one of the most important and transformative parts of Blue Heart: our mentor roundtable discussions. Sitting with their brothers, they had real conversations, gained wisdom, and started building lifelong bonds. 💙
And to top it off, we had a special guest appearance from none other than Blue Heart Alumni, Omar D. Price! Omar, who’s currently making us proud at Morehouse College, stopped by while visiting San Diego to drop some gems about college life. And guess what? He’s set to graduate in May 2025! 🎓👏
Huge congratulations, Omar! We are beyond proud of you and can’t wait to celebrate this major milestone with you!

🔥You Have No Idea What It Took to Build Blue Heart!💯
I need to set the record straight.
I’ve heard the whispers. The little comments.
"Blue Heart should be bigger by now.""Why aren’t they further along?"
"Other nonprofits have way more funding and resources."
🤦🏽♀️ And honestly? Those comments make me shake my head. Because if people knew what it really took to keep this thing going—if they knew the sacrifices, the setbacks, the nights I cried trying to figure out how to make it all work—they wouldn’t dare question how far we’ve come.
👉🏾So let me break it down for you.
The First Seven Years? Funded by Us.💯
Blue Heart wasn’t built with big donations or corporate sponsors. There was no magic grant that just appeared and paid for everything.
Nope. Tracy and I funded this out of our own pockets for the first seven years.
* We put up our own money for workshops, college tours, events—everything.
* We drained savings accounts, skipped vacations, and went without, so our boys wouldn’t have to.
* We invested in this program because we believed in it—long before anyone else did.
And we did it without complaining, because we knew what was at stake.
People see the youth we serve and the programs we run, but what they don’t see is how many times we had to make real-life financial sacrifices just to keep Blue Heart alive.
Then We Lost Tracy. And Everything Changed.😢
Tracy wasn’t just my husband. He was the HEART of Blue Heart. The visionary. The one who could walk into a room and make people believe in what we were building.
When he passed away, it wasn’t just a personal loss. It was a massive loss to this organization.
💙We lost momentum. We lost connections. We lost a leader who could turn “no” into “yes” just by showing up. Shout out to Mathew Arthur GordonM, Tammy T. Blevins, Stephanie Garcia, and Lan Jefferson for helping to keep our doors open!
💙💪🏽 Y’all stood by me when everything was falling apart, and I will never forget that.
And don't even get me started on the power B.S. that followed.‼️
People who thought they should run Blue Heart after Tracy passed. People who thought that just because they had his ear or assisted him in some way, somehow understood his vision better than I did.
Let me be very clear—as his wife of 10 years, as his friend for over 30 years—you have NO idea who he was!
👉🏾You saw pieces of him. 👉🏾You saw moments. 👉🏾You heard words.
🔥So No—We’re Not "Behind." We’re Still Standing.
I get it. People see other nonprofits with million-dollar budgets, shiny corporate sponsors, and national media attention. And they wonder why Blue Heart isn’t “there” yet.
But those organizations didn’t start where we started.
* They weren’t built off personal sacrifice for nearly a decade.
* They didn’t experience the loss of their founder and have to rebuild in real time.
* They weren’t pushing forward without the safety net of generational wealth, big-name connections, or automatic access to major funders.
🎯We’re still here. We’re still growing. And we’re doing it OUR way.
So if you’re wondering why Blue Heart isn’t “further along,” maybe ask yourself:
➡️ Do you know what it’s like to fund a nonprofit out of your own pocket for years?
➡️ Do you know what it’s like to lose the person who built it with you and still find the strength to keep going?
➡️ Do you understand what it takes to scale an organization when every dollar has to be fought for?
Because if you don’t—then maybe you should be asking how we’re still standing, instead of why we’re not further ahead.
‼️ And Let’s Talk About the Business Side of This.
Because running a nonprofit? It’s running a business.
It’s not just hosting events, giving speeches, and mentoring kids. It’s:
✅ Fundraising—Constantly. You think money just appears? We’re out here applying for grants, pitching sponsors, and running campaigns non-stop. If we don’t do that, the money stops, and if the money stops—so does everything else.
✅ Managing a Team. Staff, volunteers (a whole rant in itself), youth coaches—people need direction, leadership, and structure. Nonprofits don’t run on good intentions alone; they need operations and systems just like any other business.
✅ Tracking Results. We don’t just hope our programs are working—we have to prove it. That means surveys, data collection, reports—because funders don’t give money unless you can show impact.
✅ Compliance & Legal Requirements.Taxes, board meetings, government filings, nonprofit regulations—this is serious. If you mess up, you lose your nonprofit status.
So when people think Blue Heart is just about “helping kids,” I need them to understand—this is a full-scale operation that takes real work, real discipline, and real leadership.
🔥Here’s the Truth: We’re Just Getting Started.💯💯
Blue Heart isn’t about chasing what other nonprofits are doing. It’s about building something real, something lasting, something that will outlive all of us.
And if you really support us, here’s how you can help:
➡️ Donate. We’re not backed by millionaires. Every dollar makes a difference.
➡️ Share our story. The more people who know about us, the more support we can build.
➡️ Connect us. If you know funders, sponsors, or partners who align with our mission, introduce us.
🙏🏽But please—put some respect on the journey.
Because Blue Heart isn’t just another nonprofit. It’s a legacy. One built on love, sacrifice, and an unshakable commitment to these young men.
And we’re not stopping now.
That’s it. That’s the truth!
Now, if you’ve got something to say, I’d love to hear it. Drop a comment or share this with someone who needs to understand what building a nonprofit really looks like.
